John J. Levy serves as senior counsel in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department and the Maritime and Transportation Industry Group. As a commercial trial lawyer, his 35 years of litigation experience has included all aspects of civil litigation in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania State and federal courts, including complex fraud, contract, banking and lender liability matters, as well as maritime and transportation litigation.
Based upon his trial experience, testing and reputation, the Supreme Court of New Jersey designated John as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney. As of 2012, out of 90,149 active lawyers in New Jersey, John was one of approximately 1,100 (1.2 percent) currently holding certification in civil trial law. His certification has been renewed by the NJ Supreme Court.
Prior to joining the firm in 1986, John served a judicial clerkship with the late Honorable Jacob Kalish of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, from 1984 to 1986. He also served an internship with the late Honorable Clarence C. Newcomer of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, from 1983 to 1984.
John graduated cum laude with a B.A.H. degree from the Honors Program of Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1980. From 1980 to 1981, John worked as a volunteer with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps East as a counselor at Covenant House/Under 21, a home for runaways in New York City. John earned a J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1984. Among his law school honors were placement on the Dean’s List; the Barrister Award for outstanding trial advocacy; Best Orator Award and First Place Team Award in the Samuel Polsky Moot Court Competition; and the Moot Court Award for excellent appellate advocacy.
