Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce David Dormont was recently appointed to the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Board of Governors.
Since 1929, the Jewish Agency has served as the primary link between Israel and Jewish communities outside of Israel, playing an instrumental role in the settling of the land in pre-state times and in establishing the modern-day State of Israel. Today, the Jewish Agency connects the global Jewish family, bringing Jews to Israel, and Israel to Jews, by providing meaningful Israel engagement and facilitating Aliyah. It also strives to build a better society in Israel – and beyond – energizing young Israelis and their worldwide peers to rediscover a collective sense of Jewish purpose. The Jewish Agency continues to be the Jewish world’s first responder, prepared to address emergencies in Israel, and to rescue Jews from countries where they are at risk. The Board of Governors is the Jewish Agency’s legislative body, made up of approximately 100 Jewish leaders from communities around the world and in Israel. It set the organization’s policies and oversees an annual budget of over $360 million.
Dormont is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department. For more than 25 years, he has focused on complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy-related litigation, representing a diverse range of clients from individuals and unions to Fortune 500 companies in complex commercial disputes. He has handled more than 200 matters in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels in a variety of jurisdictions. Dormont has tried cases, as first or second chair, before various trial courts, including in trials which resulted in two of the ten largest verdicts reported in Pennsylvania in 2005.
Dormont graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in mathematics education. He graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992, where he served as associate editor of the Minnesota Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
