January 30, 2017 – Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce the firm will receive the “Restructuring Deal of the Year (Over $500MM to $1B)” and “Energy Deal of the Year (Over $500MM to $1B)” awards at The M&A Advisor’s 11th Annual Turnaround Awards Gala on March 23, 2017.
The firm was recognized as part of a deal team for its role as lead counsel for the debtors in the Chapter 11 cases of O.W. Bunker Holding North America Inc., O.W. Bunker North America Inc., and O.W. Bunker USA Inc. These cases were precipitated by the sudden collapse of OWB Denmark, which had been the world’s largest marine fuel supplier, causing a flood of litigation throughout the global maritime industry and giving rise to unprecedented bankruptcy and maritime issues. The team successfully obtained confirmation of O.W. Bunker Debtors’ liquidation plans in December 2015.
The M&A Advisor also awarded the OWB deal team with “Restructuring Deal of the Year (Over $100MM)” award at its 15th Annual M&A Advisor Award ceremony this past November.
“We’re honored that our work on O.W. Bunker continues to be recognized,” said Natalie D. Ramsey, chair of the firm’s Creditor’s Rights and Bankruptcy practice. “Our team is incredibly proud to receive this award among an amazing field of competition.”
Since the effective date of the liquidation plan, Montgomery McCracken continues to work with the O.W. Bunker North America Inc. Liquidating Trust and the O.W. Bunker USA Inc. Liquidating Trust (the “OWB Trusts”) as lead counsel. Montgomery McCracken also represents the OWB Trusts in maritime/admiralty litigation pending before various U.S. District Courts in connection with ship/vessel arrest proceedings and maritime-related interpleader actions.
Montgomery McCracken was co-counsel for the U.S. based O.W. Bunker entities along with Robinson+Cole. Other professionals recognized for their roles in the case were Allen & Overy LLP, Alvarez & Marsal, Gavin/Solmonese LLC, Halloran & Sage LLP, Hunton & Williams, and Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP.
The Montgomery McCracken team included bankruptcy and maritime attorneys. Natalie D. Ramsey, Richard G. Placey, Davis Lee Wright and Mark A. Fink are members of the firm’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy practice group. Vincent M. DeOrchis, Robert E. O’Connor and Kaspar Kielland are members of the firm’s Maritime and Transportation practice group.
This is the second consecutive year in which the firm has been presented with the “Restructuring Deal of the Year (Over $500MM to $1B)” Award. In January 2016, the firm was recognized for its involvement in the successful restructuring of Specialty Products Holding Corporation.
